World Diabetic Day

As per the International diabetes Federation (IDF) Atlas 2015, Globally 415 million peoples are suffering from diabetes which will rise to 642 million by the year 2040. The prevalence of diabetes will rise from current 1 per 11 people to 1 per 10 people by 2040. Despite all efforts about 50% of the diabetes cases are still undiagnosed. According to “World global health observatory data-2013” HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria together caused 3.6 million deaths globally, while asper IDF atlas 2015 diabetes alone caused 5 milliondeath globally. Diabetes is Killing 1 person every 6 seconds globally.

Diabetes is a global epidemic and India is not an exception. Popularly known as “Diabetes capital of World” India is home of about 69.2 Million diabetes people which will rise to 109.6 million by the year 2040.

Internationally 14th November will be observed as “World diabetes day”. With a theme of “EYES ON DIABETES” IDF aims to screen 1 million people for diabetes in november 2016.

As a helping hand to IDF and also as corporate social responsibility “Integrated Diabetes & Gestational Diabetes Clinic(IDGDC)”, IQ City Medical College and “DAY” iniativeis observing “ Diabetes Awareness Week” from 14th -19th November 2016 which aims to screen at least 1000 people for diabetes FREE OF COST. They will also be screened for risk factors for diabetes. Apart from FREE Diabetes screening of general people IDGDC is also organising a CME on “Spectrum of Cardiac Disease in Diabetes” on 14th November for doctors of IQ City and General Physician from remote areas to equip them with the latest evidence based guidelines to improve the quality of diabetes care.
