Community Medicine

Community Medicine is the branch of medicine which deals with protecting and promoting the health and well being of the community, resulting in prevention and health protection by developing appropriate strategies based on the needs of the population. Training in community medicine aims at nurturing physicians of tomorrow who can manage common health problems in the community. The community physician is excellent in development of public health policy, design, implementation and evaluation of health programmes and applying them to a broad range of community health issues.

Curriculum: Students of the subject will have to apply the knowledge they have gained in several areas of medicine for the benefit of the community. They are taught the preventive, curative and promotive aspects of every illness. They are also encouraged to get involved in the community during their undergraduate days and also during the period of internship. Rural and urban exposure is given through outreach activities in rural and urban health training centers located within 30 km from the college.
